Australia / New Zealand Chapter of the IARLJ
The ANZ Chapter of the IARLJ plans to meet in the year between the biannual International Conference, probably around October but at a time that suits Members and resource people. The inaugural meeting in October 1999 took place in Auckland, New Zealand. In 2001 the Chapter met in Sydney, Australia. Various judges and members of refugee appellant bodies contribute at the gatherings. An effort is made to include social functions.
The Chapter aims to identify and analyse specific issues and jurisprudential developments relating to the region and to discuss the potential influence of developments from other jurisdictions.
The Chapter is keen to find means to encourage judges and decision-makers from other parts of the region to join our biannual regional deliberations. It is possible this Chapter will develop into the Asia Pacific Chapter as more involvement from other countries in the region becomes possible.
The Chapter has no secretariat and relies entirely on volunteers from amongst members.
You may obtain details of the plans of the Chapter by contacting the secretariat at OR by contacting any members of the IARLJ from Australia or New Zealand.
