Former Member of Parliament (SA), Former Member of the Immigration Selection Board and the National Transport Commission. (South Africa)
In 1998, Ahmed was appointed by the then Minister of Home Affairs as the first Chairperson of the Refugee Appeal Board (RAB) mandated to establish the appeal board.
In 1999, at the invitation of the UNHCR, I participated in a judicial conference hosted by the Supreme Court Bar Association of India in Delhi. During this conference I met then President of the IARMJ , Geoffrey Care and Erika Feller UNHCR. Since that meeting, I became actively involved in the IARLJ and addressed numerous Regional and World conferences.
A highlight of this engagement was the relaunch of the Africa Chapter in Pretoria in September 2006. The Africa Chapter has since grown phenominally with Ahmed consistently demonstrating a passion to promote the activities of both the IARLJ and the Africa Chapter.
