Tripartite roundtable Strasbourg

On 9 November 2012 the European Court of Human Rights, in conjunction with the International Association of Refugee Law Judges (IARLJ) and UNHCR, held a 'tripartite roundtable' at the Strasbourg Court to discuss the increasing importance of 'lead' or 'leading cases' (which can emanate either from the Strasbourg Court , the Court of Justice of the European Union or national courts) dealing with general risk categories or risk factors in the context of claims for international protection from refoulement.

Attended by judges of the Strasbourg Court, the Court of Justice of the European Union and national judges from 15 European countries the focus of the discussion was on how the three levels interacted and what could be done to overcome problems of potential overlap, delay and lack of information about forthcoming lead cases at the three levels.
